Up here in sunny Queensland we are suffering a crippling drought.
The combined total of the dams in the area is currently 18.38%
The Water Commission has sent out these little hourglasses to households in Brisbane that are supposed to be timers for 4 minute showers which is what they want us to have.
Now… I guess the idea behind it all was good. but the execution was a little flawed.
It appears they have gone for the cheapest provider for those little hourglasses, and as a result I have found them clogging up and have friends who have issues with them as well.
So should they have bothered? On the one hand, it makes them look like they are being proactive with assisting us with taking shorter showers.
On the other hand, by giving us such crappy products, the people could assume this is just more money and time wasted on a small project which would have been better spent getting our water treatment facilities up and running ASAP.
We need those facilities as there is a good chance we could literally run out of water.
Do you have any thoughts? Will anybody even read this? Drop me a comment and let me know.
I bit the bullet and bought my own domain www.mattcorr.com a few weeks ago.
This will be used to link to my smugmug site which I have also gone pro on. Just need to finish a few special projects first before focus completely on the smugmug site. I have a good good ideas which I am sure I will be able to implement (probably with the help from the fine folk at dgrin.com)
I bought the domain from www.joker.com which was recommended by smugmug. Joker appears to be based on Germany and I have found it rather painless to use. Not sure how it compares price wise, but it seems pretty sweet.
As a bonus I was easily able to setup blog.mattcorr.com to point to here.
If you are still reading this boring post (I wonder why?) here’s a pretty picture for your trouble.
Well I have finally upgrades from DSL to DSL2+ through iiNet.
All I can say is about bloody time! no more max downloads of 160KB a sec and uploads of 25KB a sec.
I am now maxing out at 1.3MB down and 90KB up! Yeeha!! I am really happy. I know this is not the maximum that DSL2+ can do but since it’s about the same price as my sloptus plan I am very happy.
I am impressed with iiNet so far. They have good communications and follow through. Way better than Optus’s offshore Indian support 😛
After various issues at work, I am starting to really dislike Microsoft SQL Server Desktop edition. The SP4 update is nothing short of utter crap.
If you ever find yourself needing to install it, ensure you have the following:
(this is for the update and not a clean install)
- Your filesystem is NTFS
- The log on account for the MSSQLSERVER is the local system account
- You double check that the file copied across is correct. If say only half the file is copied it won’t let you know at all.
These two seemingly undocumented “features” have caused me a world of pain.
Hopefully no-one else will have to go through what I have suffered!
This is my first post. I don’t know how often I will be doing entries. but you never know.
